Rodrigo Cerda is Division Chief of the Expenditure Policy Division in the IMF's Fiscal Affairs Department. Prior to joining the IMF, he served as Chile's Minister of Finance between 2021 and 2022, following a distinguished career in public service that included positions as Budget Director and Chief Economist and Head of Advisors at the Ministry of Finance.
A Ph.D. economist from the University of Chicago, Mr. Cerda has combined senior policymaking responsibilities with academic work as an Associate Professor of Economics at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. His research and publications focus on fiscal policy, public expenditure, and pensions. Throughout his career, he has contributed to the design and implementation of fiscal and economic policies aimed at promoting sustainable growth and macroeconomic stability.
