Target audience and qualifications
- Target Audience:
- All government officials are welcome to register.
- Particularly relevant for officials in ministries of finance, economy, planning and central banks who advise on or help implement macroeconomic and financial policies.
- Qualifications:
- Some knowledge of economics is helpful.
- Basic Microsoft Excel skills and access to a computer with a reliable Internet connection and a Google Chrome web browser are essential.
Course content and learning objectives
- Course Description:
- Explains the basic skills required to conduct financial programming.
- Presents the principal features of the accounts of the four main sectors that comprise the macroeconomy: real, fiscal, external, and monetary.
- Shows how the four sector accounts relate to each other.
- For each sector, presents the accounting framework, interpretations of variables and indicators from these accounts, and basic analysis of the accounts.
- Upon completion, participants should be able to:
- Calculate economic variables using macroeconomic accounting principles.
- Interpret the accounts of the real, fiscal, external, and monetary sectors that comprise the macroeconomy.
- Describe the accounting and behavioral links between the macroeconomic accounts.
- Analyze economic and financial developments of a case study country using a hands-on, Excel-based framework.
