Technical advice and recommendations provided by the IMF mission to the authorities of Uganda focused on finalizing the rebased producer price index (PPI) and developing export and import price indices (XMPI).
Proposed compilation approach: the new PPI and the XMPI be compiled using a modified and enhanced version of the current PPI Excel-based processing system.

Considerable time was spent with the XMPI team explaining the required functionality for XMPI compilation.
A partial compilation of the import price index was undertaken using Excel spreadsheets.
For the PPI, an index structure and weighting pattern have been derived based on the final 2009–10 supply and use tables.

Adopt a modified and enhanced version of the current PPI Excel-based processing system as the basis for compiling both the rebased PPI and the XMPI.
Provide focused technical training and hands-on sessions with the XMPI team to ensure required functionality is understood and implemented.
Continue compilation efforts for the import price index using spreadsheet-based workflows while transitioning to the enhanced processing system.
Use the final 2009–10 supply and use tables as the basis for PPI index structure and weighting pattern.
