After a strong 2025 with growth at 4.5%, Sub-Saharan Africa entered 2026 reaping the benefits of hard-won stabilization gains.
The war in the Middle East has clouded the outlook.
Regional growth is expected to decline by 0.2 percentage points to 4.3 percent in 2026.

Several variants of financial scam letters purporting to be sanctioned by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) or authored by high ranking IMF officials are currently in circulation.
Scam letters instruct potential victims to contact the IMF for issuance of a “Certificate of International Capital Transfer” or other approvals to enable them to receive large sums of monies as beneficiaries.
Contact e-mail information in the scam letters is always BOGUS; victims are requested to send personal banking details which scammers utilize for fraudulent activities.
