About the WGSD
- The Working Group on Securities Databases (WGSD) was originally established in 1999 and was reconvened in July 2007 in response to international initiatives to improve global availability of information on securities markets.
- Core members of the WGSD are the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) (chair), the European Central Bank (ECB) (secretariat), and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Role in the G20 Data Gaps Initiative (DGI)
- Since 2009, the WGSD has driven implementation of a global data collection on comparable and harmonised securities statistics across G20 and FSB member economies in the context of the G20 Data Gaps Initiative (DGI).
- WGSD contributions to DGI phases:
- Led preparation of the Handbook on Securities Statistics during DGI-1; the Handbook was published in 2015.
- Led implementation of harmonised reporting for securities statistics by G20 economies during DGI-2 in 2016-2021.
Current focus — DGI-3 Recommendation 4 (Climate Finance)
- The WGSD coordinates the work of the DGI-3 Recommendation 4 Climate Finance Task Team on implementing new statistics on:
- climate finance debt securities, and
- green listed shares
across G20 and FSB member economies.
- WGSD and the DGI-3 Recommendation 4 Task Team convened at the Workshop on Securities Statistics and Recommendation 4 at the Banco Central do Brasil in Brasilia on 20-21 May 2025.
