Mission and implementation timeline
- Press Release No. 16/187; April 27, 2016.
- A mission of the International Monetary Fund visited Lusaka during April 4–8, 2016, to assist the authorities with implementation of the Enhanced General Data Dissemination System (e-GDDS).
- The NSDP will give users access to full information about Zambia’s essential macroeconomic data by June 8, 2016.
- A link to the country’s NSDP will be available on the IMF’s Dissemination Standards Bulletin Board (DSBB) by June 8, 2016: at http://dsbb.imf.org.
Scope and technical approach
- The mission supported the development of the National Summary Data Page (NSDP), which will be posted on the Central Statistical Office website.
- The NSDP will utilize the Statistical Data and Metadata Exchange (SDMX).
- The page aims to serve as a one-stop publication vehicle for essential macroeconomic data and to make information available in both human and machine-readable formats.
- Dissemination will follow an Advance Release Calendar to allow simultaneous access to timely data.
Expected benefits and significance
- Publication of essential macroeconomic data through the NSDP will provide national policy makers and domestic and international stakeholders, including investors and rating agencies, with easy access to information identified by the IMF’s Executive Board as critical for monitoring economic conditions and policies.
- Making the information easily accessible and timely will bring greater data transparency.
Context and background
- The e-GDDS was endorsed by the IMF’s Executive Board in May 2015.
- The e-GDDS was established by the IMF’s Executive Board in May 2015 to support improved data transparency, encourage statistical development, and help create synergies between data dissemination and surveillance.
- The e-GDDS supersedes the GDDS, which was established in 1997.
- Zambia is placed in the first wave of countries in Sub-Saharan Africa to implement the recommendations of the e-GDDS.
