ESTABLISHMENT AND FUNCTIONS

The Institute for the Integration of Latin American and the Caribbean (INTAL) was created by an agreement between the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the government of Argentina in 1964. Institutionally, INTAL is part of the Integration and Regional Programs Department of the IDB.

INTAL's activities include research on all aspects about regional integration and cooperation, subjects related to international trade, hemispheric integration and international relations with other regions and countries of the world. All activities are channeled through four lines of action: (1) Regional and national technical cooperation projects on integration, (2) Policy fora, (3) Integration fora, and (4) Journals and Information.

Integration Fora gives room for analysis of base studies generated through the INTAL Integration Research Centers Network (RedINT), related to highly relevant integration issues of which there is not enough information at a subregional or national level. These studies serve as a basis for reaching conclusions to the various groups taking part in the integration and trade initiatives in the region.

Documentation and Information Services are channeled through its Documentation Center and comprise 80,000 documents, 10,000 books, and 400 titles of periodicals.

The bibliographical database (INTEG) is available on the Institute's web page. Current bibliographies of integration schemes are also available. (www.iadb.org/intal/ingles/CDI/I-cdi.htm)
