The Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (OAP) is one of the IMF's major regional offices. Established in Tokyo in 1997 with the support of the Japanese government, it now serves as the Fund’s hub in the region under the Asia and Pacific Department, providing value to the members in the region through regional surveillance, capacity development, and outreach activities. At OAP, our core commitment is to deliver meaningful regional impact. We work closely with partners and stakeholders to strengthen economic policy, foster collaboration, and build capacity throughout Asia and the Pacific—the region that serves as the engine for the growth of the world economy.

OAP supports regional surveillance, capacity development, and outreach, while empowering future leaders through initiatives such as the Japan-IMF Scholarship Program for Asia (JISPA). We organize impactful seminars and conferences and facilitate peer-to-peer learning to address evolving challenges faced by members in the region. Our outreach and regular engagement with regional organizations ensure that our work meets the changing needs of the region.

As the new Director of OAP, my vision is to strengthen our role as a catalyst for regional collaboration. By deepening our regional surveillance capacity and further strengthening capacity development efforts through partnerships with the IMF’s other regional capacity development centers and relevant departments, regional institutions, governments, and stakeholders, OAP will address shared challenges and help advance economic stability throughout Asia and the Pacific. Through these efforts, OAP will continue to build bridges, drive creative thinking, and create lasting value for the region.

Under my stewardship, OAP will remain a trusted partner—facilitating dialogue, sharing expertise, and supporting institutional growth in the region. Together, let us strive to foster resilience and create enduring value in Asia and the Pacific.

Thank you for joining us in building a stronger, more connected Asia and Pacific.
