Summary

The External Balance Assessment (EBA) methodology has been developed by the IMF’s Research Department as a successor to the CGER methodology for assessing current accounts and exchange rates in a multilaterally consistent manner.

The 2013 EBA methodology paper provides an extended description and discussion of the “version 2.0” of the EBA methodology which was employed in the 2013 Pilot External Sector Report . This “version 2.0” is an enhanced version—following an outreach effort and a period of public comment—of the 2012 pilot EBA methodology which was used to inform the 2012 Pilot External Sector Report.

Data and estimates from the EBA exercise are available online.
