Press Release: IMF Board Conducts First Informal Managing Director Poll

The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) conducted a first informal straw poll among its members on Thursday, March 2, 2000. Mr. Caio Koch-Weser received the largest share of voting power; Mr. Stanley Fischer the second largest; and Mr. Eisuke Sakakibara the third largest. Thirty-six percent of the voting power abstained. On the basis of this poll, Executive Directors will continue their consultations with each other and their national authorities on the next steps. No decision has been made on a further poll.
