Press Release: Statement at the Conclusion of the IMF Staff Visit to Ukraine

Mr. Max Alier, Resident Representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to Ukraine, issued the following statement today:

“An IMF staff team consisting of Mr. Poul Thomsen, Deputy Director of the Fund’s European Department, and Mr. Thanos Arvanitis, mission chief for Ukraine, met with President Yanukovych, Prime Minister Azarov and other senior officials in Kyiv on June 9 to discuss economic policies that could be supported by a Stand-By Arrangement with the IMF.

“Discussions focused on fiscal policies to achieve the 2010 fiscal target and set the debt firmly on a declining path, and structural reforms, in particular on financial and energy sectors, to place Ukraine on a path towards stability and growth. It was agreed that a mission will visit Kyiv starting June 21 to continue the discussions.”
