Summary

The national poverty reduction strategy (NPRS) is the concrete manifestation of the government's commitment with respect to Chad's eligibility under the enhanced highly indebted poor countries (EHIPC) initiative. The program will work to create conditions for sustained growth by the end of the oil era, by appropriate and efficient use of both the EHIPC initiative and oil project funds. This paper is articulated around the process of preparation of the NPRS, diagnostic assessment of poverty, determinants of poverty and the overall outlook for development in Chad.
