Nicolás Eyzaguirre

Biographical Information
A citizen of Chile, Nicolás Eyzaguirre is currently Director of the Western Hemisphere Department at the IMF. During 1985–90, Mr. Eyzaguirre served as expert in monetary and financial policy at ECLAC in Santiago, Chile. During 1990–97, he held senior positions at the Central Bank of Chile, including that of Research Director. Mr. Eyzaguirre was the IMF Executive Director for Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay between 1998 and 2000. After that, he became Minister of Finance under the Government of former President of Chile Ricardo Lagos and served in this capacity until 2006. In the following two years, Mr. Eyzaguirre was the President of Chile’s Competitiveness and Innovation Council, under the Government of former President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet. Prior to joining the Fund, Mr. Eyzaguirre was a Senior Researcher at the Center of Analysis of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship (Intelis), and Professor of Economics at the University of Chile.
