Press Release No. 14/323
July 1, 2014

Mmes. Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, and Michelle Bachelet, the President of Chile, issued the following joint statement after their meeting today in Washington, D.C.:

“We had fruitful discussions about the rapidly changing global economic environment and its implications for the overall prospects of the Latin American region, including for income inequality and inclusive growth. We discussed Chile's policy priorities in these areas including the Government’s goals to improve progressivity of the tax system, promote equal access to quality education, and increase labor force participation—especially among women. The IMF welcomed the Government’s reform agenda and we exchanged views on areas where we might strengthen our collaboration into the future. We look forward to continuing our productive dialogue in Santiago where the Government of Chile and the IMF will host a joint high-level conference on Inclusiveness and Growth in Latin America on December 5 and 6.”
