Press Release: IMF Statement on U.S. Treasury's Semiannual Report to Congress on International Economic and Exchange Rate Policies

May 17, 2005

Mr. Thomas C. Dawson, Director of External Relations at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), issued the following statement today after the U.S. Treasury Department released its latest semiannual report to Congress on international economic and exchange rate policies:

"We welcome the Treasury's semiannual report to the U.S. Congress, and appreciate the U.S. government's recognition of the important role that the IMF can play in global economic surveillance. As Managing Director Rodrigo de Rato has said, we live in an inter-connected world and all countries should act to face economic challenges together. We will closely review this report and Secretary Snow's statement, and I anticipate that we will have additional reaction in the next few days."
