Malhar Shyam Nabar

Malhar Nabar is an Assistant Director in the IMF's European Department and Mission Chief for the euro area. In this capacity, Malhar leads the IMF team working on euro area policies. Malhar's IMF experience has spanned frontier markets (Uganda); emerging markets (China, Malaysia); advanced economies and financial centers (Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong SAR, euro area); and multilateral policies (World Economic Outlook). Prior to his current assignment, Malhar led the IMF team working on the 3-year Extended Credit Facility (ECF) Arrangement with Uganda from April 2022 to June 2023, successfully completing the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th reviews of the program. Earlier, Malhar headed the World Economic Studies division in the IMF's Research Department from November 2019 to April 2022, leading the team responsible for producing the World Economic Outlook (WEO). In previous roles in the IMF's Asia and Pacific Department he covered China and Japan, and was mission chief for Hong Kong, SAR. Before joining the IMF in 2009, Malhar was an Assistant Professor of Economics at Wellesley College.
