The oil-importing countries of the Middle East and North Africa face a difficult period ahead. The weak global economy will weigh on these countries' short-term growth prospects, compounding the negative impact of domestic political uncertainty and security concerns on economic activity. A key challenge is to boost confidence and lift uncertainties. The long-term outlook remains positive, however, as the Arab Spring has brought about renewed opportunities to achieve significantly higher and more inclusive growth in the medium term.
