Invitation of Expression of Interest

Tender for the Japan-IMF Macroeconomic Seminar for Asia

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is inviting graduate schools of Japanese universities to express their interest in a tender to select a university that will conduct the Japan-IMF Macroeconomic Seminar for Asia (JIMS) starting from the summer of 2011 for three consecutive annual offerings, with option for extension of another three years1. The JIMS is an annual one-week seminar targeting senior officials from key economic agencies in Asia.

As part of IMF’s capacity building efforts, the IMF Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (OAP) administers the JIMS with financial support provided by the Government of Japan. The objective of the program is to provide a training course on current policy issues and debates in macroeconomics for senior Asian officials. It also aims to facilitate the exchange of views and experiences amongst participant countries. In addition, it is envisaged that the JIMS will present participants with in-depth perspectives on a number of recent issues affecting the global economy and the region.

Around 20-25 senior government officials are expected to participate in the annual one-week seminar. The program should be taught in English and cover financial sector and macroeconomics topics, including international and public finance. It should be held either during the summer months (July-September) or in the first two months of the year (January-February)2.

The service provider is also requested to make necessary arrangements for participants’ travel and accommodation. The JIMS covers tuition fees, teaching related expenses, management fees, as well as travel and accommodation fees for JIMS participants.

Interested universities are invited to submit a completed form of their expression of interest (attachment) to the address below either by fax or email no later than October 7, 2010. Requests for proposal documents will be sent to those interested universities on October 8, 2010.

The due date for the full application is November 25, 2010, and the selection of the university will be made by the end of January 2011.
