Mr. Rodrigo de Rato, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), has named Mr. Liam P. Ebrill to the position of Director of the Human Resources Department to succeed Mr. Jorge  Márquez-Ruarte, who is named to the position of Associate Director of the Policy Development and Review Department. The appointments will become effective on June 6.

Mr. Ebrill, an Irish national, has served as Associate Director of the Human Resources Department since June 1, 2005. Prior to that, he held senior positions in the Policy Development and Review Department. Mr. Ebrill, who received a doctorate in economics from Harvard University, joined the IMF in 1983. He has held a range of senior positions in various area and functional departments within the IMF.

Mr. Márquez-Ruarte, a national of Argentina, has served as Director of the Human Resources Department since July 6, 2004. He has held various senior positions in area and functional departments since joining the IMF in 1975. He holds a doctorate in economics from the University of Chicago.
