Press Release: IMF Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn to Visit Singapore and China

Mr. Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), will travel to Singapore and China, November 12−17, 2009.

During his first official visit to Singapore as the IMF’s Managing Director, Mr. Strauss-Kahn will participate in the 16th APEC Finance Ministers’ Meeting, and meet with the Singaporean authorities on November 12. At an event sponsored by the IMF and the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) on November 13, Mr. Strauss-Kahn will co-chair with Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam, the Minister of Finance of Singapore, a round-table discussion with Asian policymakers on the economic policy challenges faced by the region. The Managing Director will also deliver the 2009 MAS Lecture on the role of Asia in reshaping the post-crisis global economy.

After his visit to Singapore, Mr. Strauss-Kahn will visit Beijing on November 16-17 to discuss with the Chinese authorities their policy response to the global crisis and solicit views from senior government officials regarding the outlook for the Chinese and world economies. The Managing Director will also participate in the International Finance Forum, a platform backed by official entities in China and various international financial organizations that promotes communication on global financial and development issues. Mr. Strauss-Kahn will also meet with students and faculty at Tsinghua University.
