Press Release: Statement by the IMF on Technical Assistance Mission to Argentina

Mr. Carlos Medeiros, Advisor in the Western Hemisphere Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), issued the following statement today in Buenos Aires:

“Fund staff completed the second technical assistance mission to advise on the design and methodology of a new national consumer price index (national CPI) today in Buenos Aires.

“The mission would like to thank INDEC officials for their hospitality and extensive discussions on the implementation of a national CPI. The mission would also like to thank the provincial statistical authorities in Córdoba, Jujuy, Mendoza and Santa Fe for the constructive discussions on the data and methodologies to compile the provincial CPIs.

“Fund staff left a report with the authorities with specific recommendations on the design and methodology for developing a new national CPI.”
