Press Release: IMF Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn Names Shirley Siegel as Director of the Fund's Human Resources Department

    Mr. Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), today informed the Executive Board of his decision to name Ms. Shirley Siegel as Director of the Fund's Human Resources Department. Ms. Siegel, a Canadian national, is expected to assume the post in mid-January 2009.

    "Ms. Siegel is clearly a leader in her field," the Managing Director said. "She has extensive experience and an exceptional record of accomplishments within the Canadian federal public service, where she worked for several organizations for over 30 years. I am very happy that Ms. Siegel has agreed to join us at the Fund."

    From 2001 to 2007, Ms. Siegel was Assistant Deputy Minister in charge of Human Resources for the Canadian Department of National Defense, where she had responsibility for setting the human resource strategy for a civilian workforce of 24,000. Since November 2007, Ms. Siegel has been a senior consultant and has provided coaching and strategic advice to senior management of various public sector organizations and agencies in Canada, including the Canadian Red Cross, Department of Finance, and Treasury Board.

    In addition to other senior positions she has held in the Canadian government, she is Chair of the federal public service Human Resources Council, and has participated actively in various international fora in her field. In 2007 she received two prestigious awards within the Canadian public service—the Public Service Award of Excellence and the Michelle Comeau Award for Leadership in Human Resources Management.

    Ms. Siegel holds a Bachelor's degree from Carleton University in Ottawa.
