IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde Meets Argentina President Mauricio Macri

June 9, 2018

Ms. Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) met with Argentine President Mauricio Macri today on the sidelines of the Group of 7 Summit in La Malbaie, Canada. At the conclusion of the meeting Madame Lagarde issued the following statement:

“President Macri and I had a very constructive meeting today. I reiterated my support for the important reforms announced by Minister Nicolás Dujovne and Central Bank President Federico Sturzenegger this week. We believe the authorities’ economic plan will help strengthen the Argentine economy in the short term and bolster growth and job creation going forward. As I have said before, protecting the poor and the most vulnerable is a key component of the plan, and I am very supportive of that focus. I am also encouraged by the government’s efforts to close the gender gap in Argentina and fully endorse their plans in this regard.

“I look forward to continuing our dialogue in the context of the upcoming G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting in Buenos Aires in July.”
