Washington, DC: International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva
congratulated Ilan Goldfajn on his appointment as President of the
Inter-American Development Bank.
“We are proud of Ilan, and while sad to bid him farewell, we are excited to
see him at the helm of the most important development institution for the
region he calls home. We wish him every success in his new role,” Ms.
Georgieva said.
Mr. Goldfajn had relinquished his responsibilities as the Director of the
IMF’s Western Hemisphere Department (WHD) on October 24 after the Brazilian
authorities nominated him to run for the presidency of the IDB. In light of
his election on Sunday, Ilan Mr. Goldfajn resigned his position at the IMF,
effective November 21.
Ilan’s leadership was instrumental in helping countries in Latin America
implement IMF-supported programs to tackle the impacts of unprecedented
compounding challenges. llan has also been instrumental in shaping our
policy dialogue on climate change in the region, which has resulted in the
first Resilience and Sustainability Facility —a foundation on which I hope
we will continue to build upon,” Kristalina Georgieva said. “We look
forward to working with Ilan in his new role at the IDB on fostering
sustainable, inclusive, and resilient growth in Latin America and the
Caribbean.”
The search for Mr. Goldfajn’s successor will begin immediately.
