Press Release: Statement by IMF Technical Assistance Mission to Honduras

Mr. Mario Garza, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) resident representative in Tegucigalpa, issued the following statement today:
"At the request of the Government of Honduras, a follow-up technical assistance mission from the IMF visited Tegucigalpa during March 20-30, 2007, to support the government's modernization program in tax and customs administration. This reform is critical to preserve fiscal discipline and prepare Honduras for deeper regional integration. With the objectives of improving tax compliance and reducing evasion, the mission focused its attention on strengthening the tax office, including by improving the proficiency of human resources and modernizing tax and customs procedures. The mission wishes to thank the authorities for the strong collaboration received while in Honduras."
