Mid- to senior-level officials involved in macroeconomic policy planning and exchange rate and external sector analysis.
Qualifications
Participants should have an advanced degree in economics or equivalent experience. Participants should be comfortable with rigorous empirical and theoretical analysis in international finance and open economy macroeconomics.
Course Description
This Forum is a hands discussion forum and workshop on external sector issues. It discusses findings form the 2018 External Sector assessment and presents methodological changes to the IMF's External Balance Assessment (EBA). Lectures and workshops will also discuss issues related to external sustainability, reserve adequacy, and capital market volatility. Lectures are complemented by country case study discussions to deepen the understanding of issues and encourage peer to peer learning.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Acquire an understanding of the IMF's 2018 External Sector Assessment.
- Understand the concept and interpretation of the IMF's External Balance Assessment.
- Evaluate conjunctural policy issues related to external sustainability, reserve adequacy, and capital market volatility.
