National Accounts Statistics (NAS)

This course covers theoretical and practical aspects in the compilation of national accounts statistics based on the conceptual framework of the System of National Accounts, 2008 (2008 SNA). The course consists of lectures covering methodological and compilation issues and workshops consisting of practical exercises in compiling the accounts. The main aim of the course is to train participants in the compilation of GDP both at current prices and in volume terms using the production and expenditure approaches. It covers the main concepts relating to transactions, other economic flows, stocks, institutional units, and product classifications.
The main lectures and workshops include:
(i)    the production account and the measurement of output, intermediate consumption, and value added; valuation issues; 
(ii)    source data collection and the estimation of value added for specific industries;
(iii)    deriving volume measures of value added; and
(iv)    specific issues related to goods and services transactions, including developing a supply and use framework; inventory valuation adjustment; and measuring consumption of fixed capital;
(v)    covering the non-observed economy.

Participants are encouraged to share their country's experiences on data collection and compilation. 
The course includes a session on the key updates in the 2025 SNA.

Qualifications

Participants should have a degree in economics or statistics or equivalent experience.
