Qualifications
Some knowledge of economics and statistics or equivalent experience is useful. Access to a computer with a reliable Internet connection and a Google Chrome web browser are essential.
Course Description
This course, presented by the Statistics Department, introduces participants to compiling national accounts statistics based on the System of National Accounts, 2008 (2008 SNA) framework. The course covers the sequence of national accounts, the accounting rules, and the key macroeconomic aggregates in the SNA framework. Participants will learn about the three measures of GDP—the production, income, and expenditure approaches—and how to estimate volume measures of value added.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of the course, participants should be able to:
- Describe the SNA framework and identify the key macroeconomic indicators.
- Define the components of GDP from the production, expenditure and income approaches.
- Apply the concepts, accounting rules, methods, and data sources necessary to estimate GDP.
