Target Audience
Mid to senior level officials responsible for developing and implementing social policies, especially gender responsive policies, including gender responsive budgeting.
Qualifications
There are no special qualifications for attending this course. However, a degree in economics, or social sciences, or relevant experience is desirable. Applications from officials currently engaged in gender responsive policy formulation and implementation, or those with a past background in these areas will be given preference.
Course Description
This virtual course aims to provide an overview of the linkages between gender equality and macroeconomics to policy makers, increase their familiarity with gender-responsive policy, and highlight avenues to mainstream gender equality in macroeconomic decision making.
Course Objectives
Specifically, the course will:
- Provide SARTTAC countries with an overview of the evidence on the links between gender equality and macroeconomics (growth, inequality, diversification, stability, etc.).
- Increase awareness of gender-disaggregated data and tools to assess the different aspects of inequality and link them to macroeconomic performance.
- Provide practitioners an overview of policies to address inequities at the macroeconomic policy level.
- Highlight the gender-unequal impact of COVID-19 and possible macroeconomic consequences, and the role of closing gender gaps for an inclusive recovery.
- Facilitate peer-learning between SARTTAC member countries and build networks for further exchange.
