Target Audience
Government officials (compilers and intensive users) who would benefit from gaining new, or refreshing existing knowledge of the concepts, principles, sources, and methods used to compile the PPI, expand its coverage and conduct a PPI rebasing.
Qualifications
Participants are expected to have a degree in economics, statistics, mathematics, or a related field, engage in regular compilation or use of price statistics, and have proficiency in Microsoft EXCEL.
Course Description
This course offers an opportunity to learn the concepts, principles, sources, and methods used to compile the producer price index (PPI). The course covers fundamental features of the PPI including the sources and methods used for compiling index weights The course discusses presenting PPI results and producing narratives of PPI developments. There will be a specific focus on expanding the PPI to include service activities. Finally, the course will address the rebasing and linking of the PPI.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants should understand:
- The fundamental structure of the PPI.
- The sources and methods used to compile PPI weights.
- The fundamental methods of expanding the PPI to include service activities.
- The sources and methods for rebasing and linking the PPI.
