Press Release: IMF Managing Director Rato Names Jorge M&aacute;rquez-Ruarte as Human Resources Director

    Mr. Rodrigo de Rato, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), today named Mr. Jorge Márquez-Ruarte as Director of the Human Resources Department to succeed Ms. Margaret Kelly, a national of Australia who is retiring after more than 30 years of service with the IMF.

    Márquez-Ruarte, a national of Argentina, has been Deputy Director of Human Resources since February 2004. Prior to that time he served as Deputy Director of the Western Hemisphere Department and Deputy Director of the former European II Department, which was responsible for countries that comprised the former Soviet Union.

    Mr. Márquez-Ruarte, who received a doctorate in economics from the University of Chicago, joined the Fund in 1975. He has held a range of senior positions in various area and functional departments within the IMF.
