News Brief: Jack Boorman Named IMF Counsellor

July 13, 2001

Horst Köhler, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), today announced the appointment of Jack Boorman, Director of the IMF's Policy Development and Review Department (PDR), as IMF Counsellor.

Mr. Köhler said: " I have decided to appoint Mr. Jack Boorman to the position of Counsellor, the highest staff position in the IMF. Mr. Boorman has served the Fund for over 27 years in various capacities. In making this appointment my intention is to give special recognition to the unique contributions Mr. Boorman has made to the Fund, especially in his role as Director of the Policy and Review Department over the past eleven years. In this latter position, Mr. Boorman has made outstanding contributions to the development and implementation of Fund policies across the full range of its operations."

Mr. Boorman, who as Counsellor will retain the position of Director of PDR, joined the IMF in 1975 and served shortly thereafter as the Fund's Resident Representative in Indonesia. Before joining PDR, he also held senior positions in the Asian and European Departments. Mr. Boorman earlier this year announced his intention to retire from the IMF before the end of this year. As Director of PDR, Mr. Boorman will be succeeded by Timothy Geithner, whose appointment was announced in June (see Press Release No. 01/27).
