Apply NowThe course Budgeting for Priorities equips participants with the tools and insights needed to align public budgets with strategic national priorities in a context of limited fiscal space. Using a mix of lectures, case studies, and hands-on exercises, participants explore the four core principles of strategic budgeting-prioritize, map, analyze, and report-to strengthen budget institutions and improve resource allocation. The course covers key topics including macro-fiscal and medium-term budget frameworks, program classification, budget tagging, spending reviews, and the development of reform roadmaps. While a special emphasis is placed on gender equality and climate change given their macro relevance in all countries, other cross-cutting priorities are discussed. Participants will learn from real-world examples and engage with experts from international organizations and finance ministries, fostering peer learning and collaboration. By the end, they will be equipped to assess and reform budgeting systems for more strategic decision-making.
