Mario Pessoa, is Deputy Division Chief of the Public Financial Management II Division of the IMF’s Fiscal Affairs Department. He has lead more than 30 technical assistance and capacity building missions to countries in Africa, Western Hemisphere, and Asia and Pacific. Prior to join the IMF, Mr. Pessoa worked in the Ministry of Finance of Brazil in various positions in the Treasury Department, Economic Policy Department, and Internal Control System. He has participated in the development of the IMF Fiscal Transparency Code and headed fiscal transparency evaluations in three countries. He has authored/co-authored/edited technical notes and books on public financial management issues. The most recent ones, all published by the IMF, are the book Public Financial Management in Latin America, 2016 and a technical note on Prevention and Management of Government Expenditure Arrears, 2014.
