• Served in several senior positions throughout the Spanish public administration, including at:
  • the Ministry of Economy,
  • the Economic Office of the President of the Government,
  • the Banco de España, where he was Director of the Governor’s Office and Head of the International Financial Organizations Division.
• Served at the IMF’s Executive Board on two separate occasions: 2002–2006, and 2018–2022.
• Served as Executive Director at the IMF: 2020–2022, representing Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and Spain.

Education and professional membership

• Member of the Civil Service Corps of State Economists in Spain.
• Holds a PhD in economics from Complutense University of Madrid.
• Holds a BA in economics from Complutense University of Madrid.
• Holds an M.A. in public administration from George Mason University on a Fulbright scholarship.
