IMF Staff Concludes Visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina

March 16, 2018

End-of-Mission press releases include statements of IMF staff teams that convey preliminary findings after a visit to a country. The views expressed in this statement are those of the IMF staff and do not necessarily represent the views of the IMF’s Executive Board. This mission will not result in a Board discussion.

An International Monetary Fund (IMF) staff mission, led by Nadeem Ilahi, visited Banja Luka and Sarajevo during March 7-15, 2018, to assess recent economic developments and the implementation of structural reforms envisaged in the arrangement supported by the IMF under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF).

The mission met with Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Prime Minister Novalić, Republika Srpska Prime Minister Cvijanović, Minister of Finance and Treasury Bevanda, Central Bank Governor Softić, and other government officials and private sector representatives. At the conclusion of the visit, Mr. Ilahi made the following statement:

“The mission assessed economic developments and followed up on progress toward implementing structural benchmarks envisaged for the period ahead. The discussions covered fiscal performance, business climate reforms, and financial sector developments. We encourage the authorities to redouble efforts to implement structural reforms in the period ahead.

“We look forward to continuing the discussions during the 2018 Spring Meetings of the IMF and World Bank Group to be held in Washington in April. IMF staff will visit Bosnia and Herzegovina in the coming months to conduct discussions on the second review for the authorities reform program, supported by the Fund under the EFF.”
