December 19, 2010

Press Release No. 10/503
December 19, 2010

Mr. Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), issued the following statement today:

“It is with great sadness that I have learned of the passing of my friend Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa. I extend my condolences to his family, and to those who have served closely with him over the many years. As a former Chairman of the International Monetary and Financial Committee at the IMF, we are all saddened by his death. Tommaso served this panel and the global economic community with great distinction.

”His continued service to the IMF, and to the promotion of global economic cooperation, remained an active feature of his life, even after he left government service. You may recall that Tommaso has been a member of a high-level advisory group to the Fund’s European Department since its inception earlier this year. We will move, in due, course to fill this void in our advisory group. For now, however, we mark this moment by thanking him for his long service to the international community.”
