Gita Gopinath served as the First Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from January 21, 2022, until August 2025. In that role, she oversaw the work of staff, represented the Fund at multilateral forums, maintained high-level contacts with member governments, Board members, the media, and other institutions, led the Fund’s work on surveillance and related policies, and oversaw research and flagship publications.
