Monique Newiak

  • monique_newiak_2Monique Newiak is a Senior Economist working on Nigeria in the IMF’s African Department. Her previous work on the region has focused on the production of the biannual Regional Economic Outlook: Sub-Saharan Africa and various county assignments across the continent. Prior to joining the African Department, she worked in the IMF’s Strategy, Policy and Review department on issues related to jobs and growth, program conditionality, and trade. Monique Newiak holds a Ph.D. in Economics from The Ludwig-Maximilans-University in Munich, and Masters degrees in Business Administration and in Economics. Her research interests and publications have focused on development economics, international economics, the economics of gender, and monetary economics. She is a co-editor of the IMF’s first book on gender equality "Women, Work and Economic Growth – Leveling the Playing Field", released in March 2017.
